Sofia is lying in her cot playing quietly with a toy rabbit. Luca climbs in to play with her. He is soon followed by Raphael’s friend Pia who begins to put Sofia’s dummy (pacifier) into and out of her mouth. Raphael joins the group. Sofia lies wide eyed in the middle of all the activity – feet and legs and shoes moving fast around her. Every now and then her expression becomes very uncomfortable, while at other times she is calm. Raphael and Pia begin a game where they are all a family at sea. Raphael says he is the father and has to protect the family from the dangerous sea outside the boat. Pia responds that she is the mother and needs to feed Sofia. The children pull the mosquito net over the crib. Nomsa assists them as she comes into the room to check on the children. Sofia vocalizes often and Raphael and Pia try to calm her using her dummy. Nomsa arrives to announce that Pia’s mother has come to fetch her. The children all climb out of the crib, Raphael lingering to touch Sofia as he exists. Sofia returns to playing with her rabbit, alone.
