Sofia is lying on her back in her cot. She has a few large fluffy toys around her and is playing with one, inspecting the label and head closely. There is a lot of activity going on in the room around her. Raphael and his friend Pia have just come out of the bath and are dressing. Nomsa and Pia’s carer are helping them. The talking is loud. Sofia occasionally looks out of her cot towards the activity, but is otherwise focused on her toy or her dummy. She is turning the dummy (pacifier) around in her fingers and placing it into and out of her mouth. There are moments, when the noise is very loud, that Sofia seems to place the fluffy toy on top of her face and she peers out from behind it towards the other children. Pia’s mother is also in the room watching the dressing. The children then leave the room and Sofia is alone in comparative silence.
After some time, mom arrives back from work and enters the room. She has a new haircut and brightly coloured floral dress. Sofia smiles when she hears mom’s voice approaching. Mom picks her up and holds her in the air. They smile at one another and mom kisses and dances with Sofia. Luca arrives and demands some focus from mom who is now sitting with Sofia on a chair. Mom comments that she must go and say hello to Pia’s mother. She places Sofia into the cot and suggests Luca keep her company. He does this for a while, talking to Sofia from over and between the cot bars. He then leaves.
Sofia looks towards the door with a range of expressions. Just as she begins to protest dad, also just arriving home from work, comes into the room and sweeps her into his arms. She smiles broadly at him, and they leave the room.
