Sofia (98 days / 14 Weeks) 00:10:38
Sofia | Self-regulation, Presence/absence, Frustration, Helplessness, Siblings
Sofia is in her chair on the dining room table. Sofia’s oldest brother enters, having cleared the supper table. “Good job” says mom. Raphael turns on the music from Sofia’s chair and rocks her chair fairly fast. He talks to her and tries to get her to hold onto one the toys. She watches him closely with changing facial expressions. Luca, the younger of Fia’s brothers, joins Raphael on the table and both interact with her – Luca imitating Raphael. The boys crawl off asking mom if they can listen to the track “Gangnam Style”.
Mom is putting on classical music which blends discordantly with Sofia’s chair music. The music is loud. Sophia looks around and at the filmmaker – her arms flailing about. The boys start to fight over the filmmaker’s monopod and mom intervenes – a conversation around Raphael apologising to Luca for hitting him ensues. Sophia appears increasingly uncomfortable in the cacophony of sounds. No-one initially hears or see her. After a long while mom and Luca face Sophia and interact with her. Sophia vocalizes and mom picks her up and takes her outside to watch the sunset with the boys.
